Rhythm is a University of Twente spin-off that grew out of the Center for Healthcare Operations Improvement and Research (CHOIR). Based in Amsterdam, it puts scientific knowledge of healthcare logistics into practice. Through expert advice, process support, training and software applications, Rhythm helps hospitals and other healthcare organizations plan and use their capacity better.

Rhythm is building a new suite of applications that supports healthcare organizations in capacity management and data-driven decision-making. It works with a small development team and was looking for extra capacity to help shape the suite's technical design while setting up an AI-supported development process. Colleagues without a developer background should also be able to contribute to development through their domain knowledge.
Chief supports Rhythm with three goals: shaping the technical design of the new suite, setting up an AI-supported development process, and coaching the team, including the non-developers, in this way of working. The aim is a scalable process that fits Rhythm's existing IT environment and safeguards the quality of the software.
In Chief's view, AI does not replace developers. It does make software development more of a team effort. That makes domain experts more productive, knowledge easier to access and development easier to scale.
Chief works within Rhythm's development team. The work is agreed with Rhythm in advance. Together with the team, Chief is working on the foundation of the new suite. Chief is also involved in rebuilding an existing application and in integrations between applications.
In Chief's approach, AI supports the development process. That way, colleagues with deep domain knowledge can contribute to development as well.
The approach provides clear boundaries for responsible use of AI. With the team, Chief has worked on a shared way of working and introduced the AI-supported approach. Coaching the team, including the non-developers, is also part of the engagement.
The collaboration started in mid-2026 and is ongoing. The first steps focus on the groundwork for the new suite. The goal is a foundation on which Rhythm can keep developing its capacity management software.
Rhythm's domain experts should be able to contribute their knowledge to development while quality and security are safeguarded. The aim is for knowledge of healthcare logistics to find its way into working software more easily.
By coaching the team, including the non-developers, Chief aims to put Rhythm in a position to own and further develop this way of working over time. This should keep the software reliable and maintainable in the long run.
